Tim Woodward (1985) is a Melbourne based artist working on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations.
Lifting found objects out of everyday circulation, Woodward’s practice rearranges universal signs and re-stages old symbols. His attentiveness to simple yet unexpected combinations takes inspiration from the infinitely editable spaces of language, a consistent influence on his way of thinking and making. In Woodward’s practice, written texts and titling strategies act as contractual particulars, guiding sculptural collisions and catalysing the potential for combinatory meaning. This linguistic wrangling introduces a conceptual liveliness that eddies around the formal appearances of his work.
Tim Woodward has exhibited both locally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in China, Germany and Indonesia. He has actively contributed to the running of various independent arts organisations in Australia and was a founding Co-Director of Boxcopy (2007-2011). In 2021, Woodward established Working At Heights (WAH), a program of one-night exhibitions hosted by Artery Cooperative, Melbourne.
